What People Say About Us

We receive lots of letters of compliment from guests who have enjoyed their stay at The Royal and the following are some of these comments.

"Great Hotel perfect location.”

Stayed here for my husbands birthday at the end of March in a superior room. Lovely room with lots of extras like proper coffee with a cafetiere. Breakfast was just right nice change from self service. Ate in the restaurant both nights food excellent! Service was top notch throughout, especially the waitress didn't get her name just that she was from Leeds and the reception staff, nothing was too much trouble. Location is fantastic you virtually step out of the hotel into the centre of Bath. Well worth a visit!!

"Wonderful staff”

Have just returned from a girlie break in The Royal Hotel and cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived the staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful, from the reception and restaurant/bar staff to the Housekeeper and the lovely lady who cleaned our room. The Hotel is in a fantastic position next to the train station and our bedroom, at the front of the hotel, was large, clean, bright and airy and had recently been decorated. It was well stocked with proper coffee, biscuits, various types of tea and bottled water. Lovely chocolates on our pillows were also a delicious treat. Our package of 2 nights with dinner, bed, breakfast, 2 hour Thermae Spa visit and a champagne cream tea cost £210 and was excellent value for money. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the bar in the hotel was so reasonably priced that we felt no need to go elsewhere in the evenings after dinner. We had also pre-booked a car parking space which made unloading our luggage very easy. One of the nicest, friendliest hotels we've ever stayed in and can't wait to return.

"Fantastic Food!”

Staying in Bath recently we had to walk past this hotel to get into the town centre. On our way back from an afternoon shopping we decided to call in for a well deserved drink. What a gorgeous place! The bar was comfy and the gentleman behind the bar was lovely. We ended up staying for 2 drinks and booked a table in the restaurant for that evening. We came back in the evening and were shown to a lovely table near the window, the restaurant was pretty quiet but it was about 9 pm and mid week, the staff were wonderful and the food absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend the restaurant here, I can't comment on the hotel to stay at, yet, but plan to rectify that on our next Bath visit! The whole place had a lovely feel about it and look forward to booking in !

"Perfect”

I have just got back from a perfect stay at this hotel I was part of a party that had booked about 10 rooms for 2 days. Great hotel clean, food good, location good. All staff friendly a young Scottish guy that seemed to be at the hotel for the 2 days we were there (maybe management) was really helpful obviously enjoyed his job as he was talking and smiling to everyone! Good to see an independent hotel doing well in Bath.

"Amazing value”

Have just returned from a two night stay at this hotel, conveniently located opposite the station and in the centre of Bath. It was excellent value for money and the breakfast was first class. Dinner on both nights was excellent too and the staff were really friendly and efficient.

"Clean friendly and very comfortable”

I stayed here for two nights on business because I needed to be near the station. I was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness and standard of the rooms and the choice and qualify of breakfast. Will definitely come back.

"Fantastic food and service.”

This place is right opposite the train station and so is very easy to find. They have a great range of food on offer with a daily special too. The food is cooked and presented to perfection and is absolutely delicious. I have never had a bad meal here and there is nothing I would change which is rare these days. It is extremely good value for money and I have paid far more for a lot less. Their staff are all friendly and efficient and I only hope they never change their chefs. Congratulations on being my favourite place to eat in Bath.

I stayed at the Royal Bath Hotel for a short break and found the experience one of the best I have had in some time, their customer service and food were excellent and good value for money. Recommend to anyone.

"Could not have been better.”

My husband and I stayed here on one of their 2 night special deals and found it wonderful value. We were happy from the time we booked in at reception until the moment we left, spotlessly clean room, great staff and good food. The very smart housekeeper even discovered it was a special wedding anniversary for us and left a 30 made of chocolates on the bed - a very nice touch. The restaurant had a very nice atmosphere and good menu choices-remember to order vegetables, and we both enjoyed Eggs Benedict on the second morning-delicious! Would certainly recommend the Royal and intend to visit again

"Wonderful”

We stayed two nights in this hotel and I was extremely pleased. From the moment that we arrived I felt welcomed and at home. We arrived early however were allowed to check in. Put out bags into our room and headed straight out into the centre of Bath only a couple of minutes walk away. We had dinner in the evening and was very pleasantly surprised. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the bathroom clean with a decent shower. Plenty of choice at breakfast and wine left in our bedroom. Staff were always cheery and helpful. Would definitely stay again.

"Fabulous Honeymoon Hotel”

My husband and I stayed at The Royal Hotel for our honeymoon this weekend and it was a wonderful and welcoming experience - from the best wishes we received before we even arrived (via Twitter) to the greeting we got when we drove down from Brighton and were a little frazzled after the long trip! Also, when we found that the kettle in our room was not working early one morning we rang down to reception and got a replacement within 5 minutes, which was excellent! We had a superior bedroom which was decorated in a wonderful - and very blue - style. Very clean, great sized (very comfortable) bed with a canopy, good tea & coffee making facilities and a fantastic large en-suite bathroom complete with complementary toiletries and a decent sized bath. As we had a superior room we also got big, fluffy robes and slippers so that we could relax in comfort in the room. Our TV was new and had the usual freeview channels as well as a selection of new DVDs to borrow from reception if we so fancied. The room was great value and the price included breakfast, which was also a fantastic affair. Cooked, continental or a mix of both, the food was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly without being too in your face about things. Toast and tea and a wonderful cooked breakfast was a perfect start to married life for me, while my husband had porridge followed by eggs on toast, which he proclaimed delicious. There is also a well stocked bar (including local ales as well as the usual bar drinks) with friendly staff and a restaurant on site which is supposed to be very good (we didn't have time to try it unfortunately) The hotel is situated centrally, right by Bath Spa train station, and as such everything you could want to see or do is just a short walk away. There are some (limited) paid parking spaces in the hotel (which you need to reserve in advance) but the hotel is also a 2 minute walk away from the Southgate shopping centre where you can also park safely for a reasonable price (we were there from Thursday-Saturday and it cost us £16). I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone and anyone and would like to thank them again for making our first few nights as a married couple very enjoyable ones. We will definitely return when we come back to Bath!

"Wonderful - the staff, the food, the bed.....”

I'd read the reviews before I came and they all said the staff were wonderful...but THEY REALLY ARE !! All of them , from housekeeping and waiting staff through to the reception, all really lovely. If I could score them 20/10 I would !! Helpful way above and beyond what you'd hope for, really really accommodating and friendly. The breakfast was PERFECT ( I had the smoked haddock with poached eggs, fresh orange, toast, marmalade and loads of fresh coffee ) Pleasantly full and ready to start my day now :-) Ooooohh, and the bed was extra comfortable, better than mine at home.

"Perfect Stay”

We have just enjoyed two nights at this hotel. Everything was perfect. The room (standard double) was a decent size and the bed comfortable. Room was cleaned to a high standard each day. The breakfast was the best we have experienced in a hotel - wide choice and prompt service. Dinner was delicious with lots of choice and friendly service. Highly recommend.

"Beautiful hotel in perfect location”

Stayed here for a city break for my birthday. The hotel stay was a surprise and I was very impressed. The hotel is in the perfect location for a city break within walkable distance of all the sights. The rooms are warm, homely and comfortable, with the only criticism being how creaky the floors are when people walk past your room (at one point I thought someone was in our room). But you soon get used to this, and it soon becomes part of the charm of the old building. We visited the restaurant for dinner and breakfast, and was very very impressed with the food and attentive service! Would definitely return!

"What a find"

What an excellent hotel, really refreshing to stay in an independent Hotel, could not fault anything, we stayed in a superior room which had was large with a seating area. The bathrooms have recently been updated and had bath robes and slippers included. The food at breakfast was superb with the hot food being cooked to order which seems unique these days. The location is great for walking around Bath, well worth a visit

I always stay at the Royal Hotel when visiting Bath and it never disappoints. The rooms are warm and comfortable, the food is excellent. the staff members are helpful and the location is good. On my most recent stay I had a group of overseas colleagues with me and they were all delighted with the hotel.

"One of the best hotel stays of all time”

I just want to thank the staff at this hotel for a lovely stay. We were late on out first day and would have missed out on dinner, but the lovely Izzy called us and arrange for a later sitting. She was helpful and professional from the first second that we entered the building to the very last.  The hotel is clean, professional and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel (really is) opposite the train station and really well placed. The breakfast and dinners were lovely and we were so impressed with the value for money.

"Excellent”
I stayed on business, and the hotel was surprisingly within budget; it was an extremely well located hotel. Staff were friendly, my room was clean and absolutely fine. Breakfast was good, albeit for business people it would have been better for me to eat at 7 am, rather than wait until 7.30 am, as was the case here. That is but a small gripe. All in all, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

"Could not fault it, so going back to have another go !!!!”
We go to Bath very often and usually stay at another Hotel, but there was such a great offer thought we would give it a go and we were not disappointed, Food and service were first class. The location is excellent next to the new shopping area, parking is limited so pre book.

"Excellent accommodation”

My husband and I recently stayed at the Royal. We booked a parking space with the hotel which was ideal. The hotel is in a great location and suited us perfectly as we were in Bath for the Christmas market so we were within a short walking distance from all the stalls. The room was a fair size, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the three course dinner we had was of a very high quality. Would not hesitate in staying here again.

"Christmas markets Bath”

Just got home from visiting the Bath Christmas markets. Bath is well worth a visit in December. We stayed at The Royal Hotel which is first rate.  They offer bed breakfast and evening meal at a very reasonable rate. Rooms are nice and comfortable with good facilities, the restaurant serves excellent food and staff are friendly and helpful.  The Hotel is in the middle of town and can offer pre-booked parking at the back of the hotel. We had a lovely time and next time we visit Bath this is where we will stay.

"Royal Hotel Bath”

Just had a couple of days in Bath, as I have heard a lot regarding this Georgian city. Booked into the Royal Hotel just outside the station - this was very convenient for my husband and I as we came by by train and didn't want to drive. This was a very good hotel, i.e. friendly professional staff on reception, bar, restaurant and breakfast room. Food very good quality - bar prices reasonable - good selection of breakfast. I loved the decor of the hotel - and the fact that they have refurbished this with the 'Great Isambard Kingdom Brunel' in mind. They kindly let us leave our luggage with them  (after check out) until our train was due. When we return to Bath in the summer months we will not hesitate to book into this hotel. Could not find any faults: FANTASTIC

"The Regal Royal”

I selected this hotel after reading some excellent reviews on TripAdvisor.  The reviews were certainly correct. This is a really lovely, comfortable and clean hotel. All the staff were friendly and polite. The room we had was spacious (especially for English hotels) and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was roomy, functional, clean and well appointed. The bar and the restaurant is really a great place to settle on a cold English night and the food was as good as it gets. And it does have an elevator. If travelling by car (as we did) you will need to park it in a car park. There is one just up the street and it is an easy (flat), short walk to the hotel. Make sure you have adequate change with you. If travelling by train, no worries, the station is opposite the hotel. The red tour bus stop is about 50 feet away.

November 2013 - TripAdvisor

"Fantastic location; well kept, comfortable hotel”

Great to stay in a hotel that's almost on the platform of the station but without the noise! My room was spacious and had a nice selection of teas and fresh cafetiere coffee; the bed was comfortable with quality linen... free WIFI and free bottle of water topped off the stay. Great value.

November 2013 - TripAdvisor

"Great location, very welcoming, clean and comfortable”

I was travelling by train and was so pleased to find such a good hotel opposite the station. The receptionist was friendly and helpful, stored my luggage until I could check in. The room was quite spacious, the bed was very comfortable, with good quality linen and a very good real coffee and cafetiere. All the shops, museums, Roman Baths and Abbey were a short walk away. Breakfast was generous, individually cooked. I would stay again next time I'm in Bath.

November 2013 - TripAdvisor

We recently stayed for 2 nights at the Royal Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it, very conveniently located within easy walking distance of all of the city attractions, the room and bathroom were both very clean & comfortable with plenty of room, the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and the food service in the dining room was excellent to the extent that we ate there on both nights. Breakfast was also very good. In summary a very well run, centrally located, friendly old fashioned hotel with all modern facilities & great value. We would definitely stay again if we are back in that part of the UK.

"The Royal has it all”

The Royal Hotel is very conveniently situated directly opposite the station and within easy walking distance of the central city attractions. The rooms were clean, comfortable and well-stocked with beverages. The restaurant had very tasty food and all the staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the ambience of an historic and elegant hotel, which was very much in keeping with the city itself. We would rather have liked to stay longer.

November 2013 - TripAdvisor

"Super period hotel with ambience!”

We have recently had a very pleasurable 2 night stay at "The Royal". The Manager & staff work very hard & succeed in creating a friendly atmosphere throughout. The restaurant produces good, well-presented food..... and the tea.... is made with traditional loose tea-leaves..... although if your preference is for strong tea, make it known. A very well-run, period hotel, well placed for all amenities. Excellent for visitors arriving by train, as car-parking is very limited. Will we stay at "The Royal" again?.... a resounding YES!!

"Old fashioned elegance in Bath”

We booked a Spa break in Bath with The Royal. Our room was lovely and the staff very friendly. Our Spa towels and slippers were ready for us and our room was ready early. The facilities in our room were excellent, large shower room and tea and coffee included a cafetiere and `real` coffee, nice and warm and elegantly furnished, creaky floorboards but they added to the charm.  We used the stairs because I'm not good with lifts and it was small. Breakfast was good and plenty of choice freshly cooked.(and leaf tea, wow) We didn't eat in the hotel but would do on our next visit, the bar had real ale!

November 2013 - TripAdvisor

"Ideal hotel in Bath”

Very friendly hotel just opposite the railway station. 16 of us stayed there for an organised hike around the Bath Skyline Footpath. Enjoyed two excellent breakfasts and two evening meals. Despite the exercise put on weight! Must be the food. If spending an overnight in Bath again, especially travelling by train, will certainly use it again.

"Very nice Spring break”

My wife and I stayed here in May 2013 but we kept all of our paperwork as a means to post a review on TA.

Our booking was two nights with dinner on the first night worth up to £22 (excluding drinks), and a bottle of house wine in the room. At £99 per head this appeared to be a bargain, and it certainly was. The only grouse was the room which was very basic but that was our fault as we should have upgraded

Location - Central location and perfect especially if you come by train as the railway station is a stones throw away. We parked the car up in the small hotel car-parking area that cost £8.20 per day, but ensure you book car parking in advance. Well worth it as we travelled around on foot or public transport.

Food - Everyone has different views and opinions on food, but from our point of view this was faultless. Food was cooked exactly as ordered.i.e. I like rare meat and my wife likes her meat very well done i.e. burnt to a frazzle. You can select a number of dishes from the menu in the three course meal with a £22 allowance on the first night. These are by no means basic dishes and we were offered the same deal on night two for £15. As my steak meal was more than this itself, three courses are exceptional value for £15. As far as we were aware there was no point in looking elsewhere to eat.  Full English Breakfasts are not one of our passions so we had a variety of items. No complaints and the local sausage was very tasty. Tea and coffee were good quality, and not the basic rubbish served up in some hotels.

Drinks - The first night three pints in the dining room and two bottles of wine cost £44; we considered this very good value. We did not use the bar for drinks.

Staff - Very polite and helpful. No wine in our room on arrival and my wife needed extra pillows. This was pointed out to reception and dealt with in minutes. Staff also gave us some local knowledge about local tourist attractions

Overall - This hotel is a gem and as we both like Bath, we would not bother looking for alternative accommodation when we return

October 2013 - TripAdvisor

We wanted to say that we do not understand the "ok” review you had recently as we think this is one of the best hotels in Bath.  You do get the odd creaky floorboard but that is due to the age of the property.  People need to understand that the charm and character of the property would be lost if you made it completely modern.  It is beautifully restored building that still offers certain modern comforts but still looking after the beauty and character of the building.  Staff on reception as delightful and pleasant as always.  A big happy welcome and smile along with efficient service.  Cleaning staff are fantastic.  The lady in charge is wonderful and welcomed us back the same as the reception staff.  She runs a very tight ship and the cleaning is top notch.  A special thank you to her and Maureen for looking after us so well.  The cleaning staff are a credit to the hotel.  We will be coming to see you again as soon as possible.

"Excellent location; excellent breakfast”

Adequate, comfortable rooms and very polite service on the front desk. For those travelling by train, the location could not be more convenient; the hotel is directly opposite the train station. To top it all off, the breakfast was excellent.

"Two excellent days in Bath”

We spent two nights at the Royal in Bath. As you walk through the door you could not ask for a better welcome. The receptionists throughout the two days were so helpful and welcoming. Best "Front of House" I think we have ever experienced. The hotel is just opposite the station, but the sound proofing is perfect so don't worry about noise. And you are only five minutes stroll to the centre of this lovely city. The food is very good. Breakfasts have a good range of ideas away from normal English style breakfasts. The evening meals are also excellent and really value for money seeing you are in a central city hotel. Because of the thick double glazing (good noise dampener) there is an AC in the room. It can be a little loud, but didn't worry us. We slept like logs. We'll be back and make this our base for discovering more about such a lovely city.

September 2013 - TripAdvisor

"Old England Charm”

The Royal Hotel is a very charming British hotel. The location is perfect if arriving by train and for access to Bath. The staff on arrival couldn't have been any more helpful and friendly. The rooms although not huge were spotlessly clean with coffee and tea making available. The shower was superb after a long day exploring Bath. I would recommend The Royal and if lucky enough to visit Bath again would definitely choose The Royal.

September 2013 - TripAdvisor

"Brilliant Service”

I took my mum to the Royal Hotel to celebrate her 60th Birthday and we had a brilliant time here. The room, while not huge, was comfortable and had everything we needed. It is very handy for the train station being just across the road which does mean it is a little noisy at night but most hotels in cities are. The restaurant was reasonably priced and had excellent food and the breakfast was lovely. The staff were exceptionally helpful, friendly and made our stay at the Royal a pleasure. I would certainly recommend this hotel to friends and family.

September 2013 - TripAdvisor

"A Wonderful Break in Bath!”

The breakfast was excellent! It catered for all including veggies and vegans because there was a variety of options including hot and cold meals, so therefore you feel like a nuisance! Also the beds were very comfy and the hotel was situated in a key area by the main attractions. Finally I found the staff very friendly and helpful. I highly recommended The Royal Hotel for a relaxing break.

"Fantastic value in elegant surroundings.”

My bf and I stayed her as a birthday treat and we were very impressed. On the website there is a deal £99 pp for two nights stay B and B and a 3 course meal on a night of your choice. The meal was delicious well prepared and excellent service. Could not fault the staff polite and helpful at every turn. The hotel is opposite the train station which is helpful and is close to the town centre. 10/10 would stay again :-)

"Great atmosphere”

This hotel was #1 for us during our 3 week visit to UK. The highlight was the friendly staff - it felt like family from Emily at the front desk to Chris in the bar and Craig who was everywhere. Even the manager came out to great us. We loved our room (309) - it was large and comfortable,c lean and cool. The hotel was in a good location for walking to all the sites and catching the city tour bus, which I would recommend. Highly recommend this place.

"Charming”

This is a lovely old hotel. They have done a wonderful job of maintaining the look of the hotel. Remember this is an historic hotel, so expect small rooms with high ceiling. The bathrooms were updated beautifully. The best part . . . the food! It is a must to have the white chocolate Bailey's Irish Cream tart with clotting cream ice cream. When I go back, this is the only restaurant we will eat at in Bath.

"Second stay at the Royal”

Decided on a whim to go to Bath for the weekend, as we were very happy with our first stay at the Royal, decided to stay again. We were lucky to get in, only one room left, which was four poster room,109. Once again very happy with the room, clean, spacious, airy and comfy bed. Just a quick note to anyone with mobility problems, the bed is quite high, and could prove difficult to get in and out of. I would also like to mention Emily on reception, you can expect a warm, friendly welcome, it's a joy to see someone, who actually enjoys there job. Once again no complaints with breakfast, plenty of choice. All in all, had a great weekend in Bath, and hope to return soon, and would not hesitate to stay at the Royal again

"Excellent yet again”

Having already reviewed this hotel once we still feel we need to do it again this time as we have been again and can confirm that their standards are always maintained. We had a standard room this time on a 2 night deal with breakfast and evening meal included on one night. Excellent value for money. The room was immaculately clean with a lovely bathroom with shower. Bed was comfortable and room was of a good size with a lot of nice little extras to make you comfortable. All staff were friendly and very welcoming. The breakfast was lovely with a lot of choice and very well cooked and presented. Evening meal was also of a high standard and very enjoyable. We were happy to visit this hotel again and it is nice to know that when you are returning their standards are as high as previously. We will definitely be booking again.

The weather was torrential but the reception at the hotel was very sunny.

The girl on reception was particularly pleasant and informative. Everything explained on arrival - no need to ask questions. Free DVD's were offered should they be needed. Single room was fully equipped, ipod dock included. Very clean, bathroom had everything you need including a powerful shower. Breakfast great.

I recently stayed at the Royal Hotel in Bath on a Spa Break which had been bought for me. As I travelled there by train, the location of the hotel opposite the station booking hall was excellent, also being two minutes from the elegant new shopping centre and a short walk from the Roman Baths, abbey etc. The hotel is stylish but informal and all the staff made me feel very welcome. The room at the rear of the hotel was well-appointed with a comfortable bed and very quiet, which I appreciated. A cafetiere and bottled water as well as good quality toiletries were thoughtful extras. I would warmly recommend the hotel for both business and leisure breaks and hope to return again soon.

"Excellent break”

Just returned from a wonderful 2 nights break. The special offer break is such fantastic value for money. Thank you for the upgrade to a 4 poster bedroom the bed was huge which was wonderful. Plenty of coffee and tea etc nice local biscuits and bottle of water which was welcome - fluffy dressing gowns and slippers. Very clean with both a bath and shower which was lovely. Evening meal included 3 courses and beautiful full English breakfast. The hop on/off bus stop is right outside just a 10 minute walk to the centre of Bath shops and the main Roman Baths attraction. The car parking was an added bonus for just a small daily charge I would recommend you book in advance as only 6 spaces available. Congratulations on offering a wonderful welcome and polite friendly staff a big pat on the back. We will be back Thank You.

"Lovely Last Minute Stay!”

Me and my other half booked this hotel the day before on a last minute trip to Bath. The room we booked was the last room left in the hotel and was one of the superior rooms. Although it would of been nice to have had a room with a bit of view or maybe one of the more newly refurbished rooms we were not at all disappointed with our room seeing as it was the last one left! We really loved some of the really lovely personal touches like the slippers and chocolates left on the bed! The staff are really friendly especially the receptionist who was very welcoming and helpful the entire time! The location is fantastic right across the road from the train station, and yes you do get train noises but don’t book a hotel across from the station if you are expecting a noise free night! As we live near a train station anyway this was not a problem for us at all, the gulls can be quite noisy but this is not a fault of the hotel, this will be the same across Bath! It’s a short walk to all the shops and attractions etc so for us was ideally based and no need for any taxis etc.  The breakfast was amazing! We were expecting continental breakfast (HotelBooking.com need to work on the description as this is a real selling point!) We got a lovely cooked breakfast with eggs as you like them, again very quick and friendly service. There is also a buffet with fruit, cereals, ham and cheeses etc.  We will definitely be returning here and we are looking forward to taking advantage of the summer offer!

"Convenient with excellent breakfast.”

The hotel is located directly opposite the Bath Spa train station. It is also about a 5 min walk to the main tourist sites of Bath Abbey, The Roman Baths and also shops and restaurants. I arrived at 9am and was warmly greeted by a female staff who helped me store my bag and gave me a map so that I could explore the city immediately. I booked the single room and although it was quite small, it was clean and with all the amenities one would expect from a hotel. The room is naturally ventilated and may get a bit hot in the summer afternoons. Breakfast was included and the eggs benedict is highly recommended. I would choose this hotel again.

"Good food Reasonably Priced”

We had just completed the "Skyline" 10k walk around Bath and need food after a very hot day. We checked out a few places and saw the menu outside the Royal and decided to give it a go. We were not disappointed I had a minute steak with pepper sauce and my wife had ham egg and chips both were very good and excellent value for money. I would recommend this hotel for its food. It also had a nice looking higher end dining room which we did not use but on the basis of the bar food I would give it a go next time we are there

The 2 night stay package was super value for money. Not a 5 star hotel room and décor wise but for price, value & service I would give it 6 stars !

"What a pleasant surprise”

When a friend, who lives in Bath, suggested that I stay at the hotel outside the train station I was a little wary expecting, for the money, to find myself staying in nothing bigger than a box room and being kept awake all night by the trains. How wrong I was and what a pleasant surprise The Royal turned out to be.  Close to the station it was, indeed until the 1930's guests could enter and exit the station by way of a private footbridge across the road outside, but the trains were very much in the background as my very well equipped and well furnished room was at the rear of the property and as a consequence I slept undisturbed by them. Another plus were the staff who were unfalteringly smiling ,friendly and helpful and yes, the breakfast was good too. I didn't dine there in the evening as you are in very easy walking distance of range of eating places to suit all tastes and pockets in this recently, and tastefully, revamped part of the city centre. If you are visiting the city by rail or coach The Royal is well worth considering.

"Steps from the train, charming and friendly”

I chose this hotel because it is literally steps from the station! Just cross the street and you are there. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Our room was a "4 poster" with canopy bed and lots of old fashioned English charm. A large room with areas for sitting and relaxing. The bathroom was modern, well appointed and clean. Great selection of coffee, teas and biscuits in the room. Our sons had a twin room and it was very spacious for them. Also well kept and clean. Breakfast was delicious, lots of hot and cold things on offer. They have breakfast in the restaurant adjacent to the hotel, nice seating. My husband and I had a drink in the lounge one night, very friendly and relaxing.

"Great short stay in great hotel”

Just spend 5 days in Bath staying in the Royal Hotel, Manvers Street with a friend. Great location to trains and buses and only about 5 minutes to main attractions such as Abbey, Roman Baths etc.

Hotel was extremely comfortable, good service and very courteous staff. Our room was a twin bedded on top floor - good position and very quiet. Food equally good. We booked the leisure break (twice over) and had 2 dinners included which was great. Plenty of places to eat nearby and in the centre of the City.

"A classic that is worth coming back to”

I have been coming to Bath fairly regularly since 2007, and during that time have tried several hotels in the city. The Royal has always been among my favourites, not least because of its convenient location right across the street from the train station--so whether I was arriving or departing by train or needed a taxi, it was all there, right outside the door. The hotel itself has improved in the past couple of years, and on this trip I noticed one further small improvement: instead of the usual instant coffee one usually gets in hotel room, the Royal gives you proper coffee and a small Bodum press. For someone like me who cannot even take a shower without a dose of morning coffee, this was a significant improvement. Other nice features: free wifi that works well everywhere in the hotel, full English breakfast included in the room rate, friendly staff. Overall, a nice old hotel (designed by Brunel himself!) but updated just enough to be comfortable without losing its soul. There is usually a 2-night minimum stay requirement, but that is the case in most of the better hotels in Bath.

"Good central location”

This hotel is an historic landmark in Bath and most conveniently located opposite the railway station - close to the main shopping area. The bar area is comfortable with a warm atmosphere and there is good restaurant. Staff were all very pleasant. Our weekend deal included dinner on the first night and full English breakfast each morning - food was excellent. On the whole it was a good weekend and Bath is a most beautiful city that we will certainly visit again.

"Great Hotel”

Spent one night at the Royal Hotel Bath recently when travelling around South West England. Location was perfect as we were arriving and leaving by train (Bath Spa). Staff were warm, friendly and very keen to help. Our twin room was large, roomy and very comfortable (and quiet considering it is close to the station). The bathroom was large and modern. Breakfast was served promptly in a lovely dining room. Great value for money and would highly recommend this hotel to other travellers.

"Couldn't have chosen better!”

Booked direct with hotel, Zoe the receptionist was excellent, booking our 2 night break which included one evening meal and a welcome bottle of wine. We pre booked a car parking space, which proved to be a wise decision , and all details were immediately confirmed back to us by e mail. Four poster room was lovely, crispy white bed linen and a huge bathroom, plenty of towels and although room was facing the street it was very quiet. Great idea to have real ground coffee and a cafetiere in the room, rather than the normal instant packets, tea selection was good too. The evening meal was superb, steak that could be cut with a butter knife. Full breakfast selection, with cereals, fruit,  etc and an excellent choice of hot cooked options . A brilliant, excellent value hotel break in the centre of Bath

"So impressed.”

Just back from a Travel Zoo deal weekend at The Royal Bath Hotel. No hesitation in recommending this Hotel. From start to finish everything superb. Stayed with a friend in a twin room. Lovely fresh white sheets & towels. Everything clean & well kept. Reception staff very friendly & efficient especially Emily, so helpful. Fantastic breakfast, all local produce & quality. Definitely no cheap shortcuts all served with a smile. Location couldn’t be better, train station opposite, Thermae Spa( wow! so worth the £26 for 2hrs, tickets from reception), Roman Baths(get there early as queues but very interesting) & shops...well we loved the shops. Lots of good restaurants & great tea rooms. Sally Lunns the oldest building complete with a little free museum downstairs great. Had a great weekend in Bath. But definitely down to this fantastic Hotel. Although small we thought it was worth more than the 3* rating.

"Great hotel and so handy for everything”

Central hotel seconds from train and bus stations but also offers discounted car parking if required which is very valuable in Bath as not all hotels have parking. Minutes from big name shops and across the road from an internet cafe. Standard double en suite was spacious and bed linen was lovely and crisp. We had dinner and breakfast and it was very nice food indeed with good choice. We also ate dinner at the famous Sally Lunns but food nowhere near as good as the Royal and I also found a hair under my tiny portion of food! The cosy welcoming bar serves drinks and bar meals at very reasonable prices also. Finally the staff - All were genuinely very friendly and most helpful and deserved our tip! Look forward to staying at the Royal again in the future as Bath is a lovely place and deserves another visit one day.

"Very friendly and perfect location”

Was recommended by a friend. Stayed in single room for two nights beginning of June 2013. Comfortable and clean room with excellent shower. Choice of tea and coffee in the room was more than anywhere else I have stayed. Breakfast served just spoiled you for choice with a healthy menu. Finally, I was welcomed with a big smile and the staff were extremely polite and friendly. I certainly will be staying there again. Strongly recommend.

 "Great city centre hotel”

Stayed one Friday night for an event in the city centre - this hotel as a superb location, directly opposite the train station. My wife and I were concerned about noise, as our room faced the station and was above a fairly busy road - not a problem, we didn't hear a thing (even with a Police station round the corner and it being a no-doubt busy Friday night).Staff were excellent - very friendly and helpful, made us feel very welcome. We'd gone for a superior room - good value, nice clean room, really good coffee facilities - you get a cafetiere as well as normal instant. Might not sound like much, but if you like a coffee in the room before you face the world...Good breakfast - very quickly served. And at checkout - again great staff, we were asked, unprompted if we wanted to leave luggage at the hotel as we were going out round the town.I don't hesitate in recommending the Royal.

"Another Travel Zoo Gem”

We went for a birthday celebration with friends for a two night break with travel zoo. Very good location, so near to everything. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Room quiet and comfortable, lovely sized bathroom. The breakfasts were very very good. When I think of some of the four star hotels that we have stayed in, paid a fortune and had horrible cold bland breakfasts, this was wonderful. We had one evening meal, offered a good choice, well presented and most

"Really nice stay”

I booked for 2 nights with a friend. On arrival the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The room was lovely and well equipped, with comfortable beds, plenty of drawer space for clothes, well equipped tea and coffee making facility, t v, and large shower room which was very clean. The Breakfasts were very good with plenty of choice and the evening meals were excellent, we also had there champagne cream tea, which was really delicious. I also booked parking in the hotel car park which is just around the side of the hotel which was very useful. The Hotel is very convenient, the shops start just across the road, and the Crescent and the baths are within walking distance, we also went to the theatre which was very good and is about ten minutes walk from the hotel. The weather was beautiful, and the hotel staff excellent, all in all a very nice stay we would definitely book again.

"Treated like Royalty”

The Royal Hotel is located in central Bath, close to the station and the historic city centre and shops so it's convenient for visitors who prefer to travel by rail or road. It has no car park on site but you can drop off you bags with the receptionist and there is a car park about 50 yards down the road. The hotel is tastefully decorated with welcoming and comfortable furnishings while at the same time giving a sense of space. The room we had was very comfortable with a lovely vigorous shower in the bathroom. The best bit for me was the hospitality tray which not only had a teapot, (rarer and rarer these days), but also a coffee pot and a selection of teas, coffees and drinking chocolate and biscuits.  The staff were all friendly and very helpful. English breakfast was made to order and the continental buffet breakfast had a very good selection to choose from. We also enjoyed a bar meal after work which was substantial and beautifully presented and served. It had just the right atmosphere to unwind in.  After a good night's sleep we were up and out the next morning for a spot of sightseeing and lunch in the famous Sally Lunn tea shop.

"Excellent!”

I stayed here for 2 nights with my Mum for her birthday. Everything was excellent. Friendly staff, great service, location and food. We had room 210, twin at the rear of the hotel which helped for a good night’s sleep. Comfy beds, good tea tray and real coffee, plus bottle of wine, nice touches. As part of our booking we had a 3 course meal on our first night which was excellent and great value for money. Breakfast was also very good, great selection. Compliments to all staff for a great stay, thank you and we will be back!

"Still a great place to stay”

My wife and I stayed at the Royal from Sat 25th to Mon 27th May. Check in time is 2.30 ,but we arrived at 1 p.m and were told our room was ready for us. It is situated opposite Bath Spa rail station .A perfect location and only 5 mins from the new shopping centre .Although nothing is very far from the Royal . All the staff without exception were polite, friendly and helpful. They greeted you with a smile and not a scowl. We stayed in room306. It was spotless ,tastefully decorated and smelt lovely and fresh. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom clean and the water temperature in the shower was just right. The food was tasty, well presented and plentiful. To sum up a great place to stay .We could not find any faults and this is our 3rd stay. We will definitely go back again. Full marks to everyone at The Royal. You are the BEST !!

"Well located, comfortable and friendly, helpful staff”

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Royal. The staff were, without exception, friendly, efficient and willing to go way beyond the call of duty - especially worthy of mention was Emilie on reception. When we rang up to book we were even warned that our room, which was at the front, might be a bit noisy (it wasn't, incidentally, and we were there on a busy Bank Holiday weekend). It's that level of genuine, natural, customer focus that we enjoyed and which is so often lacking elsewhere. We will without doubt return and would happily recommend it to friends. It's not the Ritz, but it’s a welcoming, clean and unpretentious hotel in the middle of Bath where customers obviously matter and the staff clearly enjoy working together. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

My wife and I had stayed at the hotel outside the City of Bath about 40 years ago and decided to visit Bath again. We found The Royal Hotel in the website and realised that we do not need to bring our car with us as it is located close to the Bath Spa Station - a pleasant and up t
