What People Say About Us

We receive lots of letters of compliment from guests who have enjoyed their stay at The Royal and the following are some of these comments:-

"Fantastic Stay”

We stayed on Saturday night having been recommended by a friend, we were not disappointed. The room was excellent and spotlessly clean with nice little touches like a cafetiere. We could not fault the food and the staff were welcoming and extremely attentive. Having stayed in many hotels we have to say that this is one we will definitely be returning to soon and can recommend to any visitor looking for a great hotel in Bath.

"Fab weekend break!”

Fantastic weekend in bath in this brilliant hotel! Central to all attractions and bars. Hotel was spotless and the attention to detail was great with fresh coffee, lovely toiletries and magazines in the room. The bar area was friendly with reasonably priced drinks. The restaurant served superb food with professional, friendly staff. We were able to park our car on site which was ideal. This central location was great for our party of 4 and not any more noisy than you would expect if you want to stay in the middle of a town !

"Birthday trip”

We had a wonderful time. Hotel was very good, food, service and rooms. We were well looked after and felt compelled to write this review. If you go to Bath this is the place, convenient with good access to everything.  We did not find Bath or the hotel to be particularly expensive

"Ideal location and great hotel”

My wife and 2 friends stayed here recently and could not speak highly enough of hotel.  As I had booked it I was delighted by their comments of a very nice hotel, good location, good value, excellent staff and food. Thanks

"Delightful room, excellent food, service second to none.”

This hotel is conveniently located next to the station and also close to the office I was working in. The welcome was friendly and there were always friendly greetings and efficient service from the staff. The room is very pleasant, TV, wifi, a teapot and a cafetierre, together with being clean and comfortable. Both breakfasts and the evening meals were delicious. Would definitely stay again.

"Ideally situated for visitors to Bath travelling by train”

I have given this hotel v.good marks based on the location of the hotel to Bath railway station, in essence, across the road. Also on the most friendly and helpful members of staff, including the kitchen staff and cleaners. We had a lovely 3 night break here and paid a little extra for a larger room with a 4 poster bed. There are the usual tea and coffee making facilities in each room. We also had an ironing board, trouser press, and hairdryer available. The restaurant where breakfast and dinner is served is a pleasant area, plenty of room to move around. Our evening meal at a fixed rate was 3 course, served hot and presented well. The breakfast menu was varied and interesting, something for everyone, from full English breakfast to continental, fruits, yoghurts, juices, pastries, and kippers. Service was prompt and efficient, breakfast food was served freshly cooked, with eggs to your liking. Patrons are required to book out by 11am, but there is a secure room where luggage can be left at no extra cost until you are ready to leave the area. There is a small lift to the higher floors. My only advisory note would be that rooms to the front of the hotel which is where we were sited might be noisy to anyone not used to city living, or who cannot tolerate night noise. That said, there is triple glazing and it did not interfere with our comfort at all.

"Exceeded our expectations”

We booked a weekend spa package to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The room was excellent - the same one shown in the web page. A warm welcome from the friendly and helpful staff. The bar staff were also friendly and efficient. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food and service were excellent. The same was true of the breakfast. We are a well travelled couple who have stayed in more hotels than you could shake a stick at and this was as good as the best we have ever encountered. If this review seems over the top it is because our anniversary was so special and the choice of hotel could either make or break a very special occasion - The Royal made it extra special.

"Excellent yet again!!!!”

We would like to direct this review to Ron Zanre, Owner. We have visited this hotel on many occasions and think that some of the reviews have been totally unfair to you and your staff. We understand that things can occasionally go wrong and people need to complain but we are sure that they would be have been dealt with satisfactorily. We have had the pleasure of meeting your staff on at least 4 occasions and feel we know them well enough to say that they would have dealt with problems with efficiency and professionalism. Our visit we were greeted by a lovely lady on reception, she was friendly helpful and a delight to meet after our journey. Our room (204) was clean and comfortable with secondary double glazed windows which cut all the noise from the road and station out (we were right at the front of the hotel). Room was warm because of time of year and we used the cooling fan supplied in the room. One night it was colder and we requested a heater as the central heating was not on at the time of year and it was supplied immediately.  Food was excellent with plenty of choice. It was all freshly cooked. Waiting staff were lovely friendly people who attended to our every wish. There was a small problem with the parking one day. We had booked our parking but someone else had used the space. The Manager dealt with the problem straight away and in fact gave us his parking space until ours was available the next day. He could not have been more helpful. The staff in general have always been exceptionally friendly and efficient. We have never had cause to complain about their service. The cleaning staff are marvellous. A special mention to Maureen and Ann and especially to the Housekeeper, Marion who went out of her way to specially help us and has always been friendly and helpful. We would like to make it clear to people who stay here that it is an old hotel with all original features maintained as far as possible but with the addition of a few home comforts such as secondary glazed windows and heating. The floorboards creak, the rooms are individual with unusual decor in some cases. But this is what makes this hotel beautiful, no need to change a thing.

"Great value”

We took advantage of the mid week deal and it was a great value. Can't say anything but good. Friendly staff, clean room and great dinner. It is also conveniently located across the street from train station. It made our stay at Bath more memorable

"Exactly what we were after”

Stayed here for the weekend having booked a four poster room and tickets for the rugby. Yes it may not be the most modern of hotel and it doesn't have air conditioning but then who comes to Bath for a weekend to stay in a hotel room. This hotel has at least got character unlike the more sterile approach you seem to get in more modern hotels (eg Travelodge, Holiday Inn) The hotel is very clean and tidy, rooms are comfortable and all of the staff we interacted with were very nice, professional and helpful. So if you want somewhere with character, a great location and great staff I can highly recommend the Royal Hotel.

"One night stay”

Stayed here at the end of August 2014 as a treat from my wife, also visited the Thermae Spa. Room 104 with a super-king bed. Overall impressed with the standard and cleanliness. Breakfast 07.30-.9.30 which was very good. My wife commented on the vegetarian sausage which she described as "awesome"

"Great location and good value”

We stayed 5 nights from Aug 16-20 and checked out Aug 21. The location was great opposite the train and close to the bus station. With the walking distance to Bath Abbey and Roman Bath. Staff were friendly. The room was around £60 per night inclusive of breakfast.  Recommended and will definitely stay there again when I go back to Bath.

"Excellent city break”

As a surprise for my husband's birthday, I had booked a two night spa break with dbb at the Royal hotel. I think the biggest treat for us was that the grandparents had the kids for the weekend ;o) The deal was excellent value at £210 each over a weekend for DBB, two nights stay, champagne cream tea and a spa visit each. We parked in the Manvers Street car park over the two days as the hotel car park was fully booked. This cost £12.50 per day but was a short 5 minute walk from the hotel. We had a superior room (room 104) which was lovely. It was decorated in traditional style and everything was clean and well looked after. The bathroom was lovely, we had a large bath with good shower and plenty of fluffy white towels. We were also impressed by the large wardrobe and free safe - you don't get those things as standard very much at all these days!   One of the best things about this hotel was the staff. Everyone we met was so lovely and friendly. On the second day we popped back to our room to get our robes and towels prior to our spa visit and the housekeepers stopped me to ask whose birthday it was (I had bought my husband a birthday cake which was on the side in our room). I told her and when we returned to our room later that day prior to dinner, they had laid out chocolates on our bed spelling out HB - such a lovely touch and indicative of the personal service you receive. We stayed on DBB terms and were very pleased we did. The breakfasts were exceptional and of very good quality. My husband thinks you can judge the breakfast by the quality of the sausage, which he said was outstanding. I had eggs Benedict one day and smoked salmon & scrambled eggs the second, again all very well cooked and presented. We had plenty of toast, croissants, juice and cafetiere coffee too which was great. Dinners were equally good and there was a great choice on the menu - if you wanted something off of the set menu, it was no problem and you just paid the little extra. The steaks are of particular note, very well cooked and delicious. Service was attentive. We had the champagne cream tea on the Saturday afternoon which was lovely - it was also good that you could choose when you wanted to use each of the vouchers for the break so that you could build your break around your schedule. We loved Bath and found the hotel was easily in walking distance of the main attractions - we visited the Roman Baths (5 minutes away), Abbey (5 minutes), Royal Crescent (15 minutes), Circus (10 minutes) and Odeon cinema (10 minutes). We didn't have to use our car once whilst we were there. We would definitely recommend the Royal Hotel to any one and would stay again if in the area. We have a wonderfully relaxing break made all the better by the lovely staff.

"What a great place”

We have just returned from a night at the Royal. Our room was 103, first floor. The room had all the things you need plus a large bathroom. The best part about the Hotel is the staff, friendly, keen to please and always smiling. We ate on site and the food was great. Yes, you may be able to get the same dishes elsewhere cheaper, but the service was first class and the food was cooked to perfection. Free wifi is on offer and also a list of dvd's you can borrow free of charge. We found the best place to park was opposite at the rail station, but beware it states that the car park is for rail users only. The location of the hotel is very central, so park up and walk. You are not far from all the attractions.

August 2014 - TripAdvisor

"A charming and central hotel”

We chose the Royal because of its close proximity to the train station, We found the Hotel to be very central to many and varied restaurants plus a new shopping centre. The hotel staff were extremely efficient and friendly and made us very welcome. The room had all the amenities expected and very comfortable. The ambience of the breakfast / dining room is superb as is the food which has a wide ranging menu. In all a very memorable stay.

August 2014 - TripAdvisor

"Great location, good value, excellent staff”

This hotel has a very good deal for 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast at the moment and we booked on that basis. If you book it through Visit Bath's website you will also get 2 free tickets to the Roman Baths, which is a really enjoyable visit and well worth an hour or more, especially in the evening (July and August) as it's torch-lit. The hotel was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and is historic and solid. Recent decorating in the dining room give it a French bistro feel which is warm and welcoming. The food both at breakfast and dinner was very good and the staff on duty were always efficient, helpful and friendly. The bedroom we had was a reasonable size and nicely decorated, the bed was comfortable and there was a ceiling fan, which was much appreciated as the weather was hot while we were there. There was also a sofa in the room. The bathroom was recently renovated with an excellent shower and the towels were large and fluffy. In addition to the usual coffee and tea, there was fresh ground coffee and a cafetiere which was a lovely touch. The hotel is very well located, opposite the railway station and only a couple of minutes walk through the newer shopping area to the historic centre. It is not part of a chain and that is obvious from the attitude of the manager and staff; all are unfailingly helpful and willing to go the extra mile to make your stay a happy one. If you come by car book a space for it in the (very small) car park at the rear when you book your room. Parking in Bath is awful and pricey. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.

"An enjoyable stay; good value”

Stayed for the night and found it great value for money. We had the Spa package and really enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. Our Champagne Cream Tea was enjoyed while we relaxed in the bar. We decided later to eat out, the staff were very helpful in their suggestions and afterwards relaxed in our room which was clean, tidy and comfortable, giving a lovely sleep. Breakfast the next day gave a lovely choice and was enjoyable. After breakfast we walked through the beautiful city to the Thermae Spa Bath and spent a couple of hours relaxing, and boy is it relaxing. Our stay was thoroughly enjoyed staying in this lovely, historic listed building designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, built in 1846. Because of this the building retains character, which is something to be respected. The Royal is great value for money and we certainly want to return.

"Great value for money and location”

Booked this hotel for a two night stay, with their package deal of DBB on both nights plus a bottle of wine in the room, room had everything that you would need, tastefully decorated and very clean. They even sorted out tickets, towels and slippers for the Thermae Spa for us. Breakfast was great and plentiful, evening meal was just as good, as was the service. The location of the hotel is ideal for everything, all within a 2 minute walk of shops, Roman baths and canal. You would be very hard pushed to find anything as good and at such fantastic prices anywhere else. Go and enjoy this hotel, we did.

"Lovely experience”

This is my second stay at the Royal in just over a year. I can find nothing to criticise at all, in fact all that I can do is recommend!! The staff are attentive and polite at all times-especially the Restaurant Team. Such lovely food-I had Breakfast and dined later in the day in The Brasserie Brunel. The Menu suits all tastes and is beautifully cooked and presented. The rooms are decorated to suit the period of the building-no air conditioning but fans are easily available and this was really no problem. I only needed a sheet on the bed during the whole of my stay. The last time I stayed at the Royal was during the Winter and I was as snug as a bug in a rug!! This Hotel is well worth a try-the central location is worth its weight in gold and you will not be disappointed.

"Great 2 nights in Bath”

We stayed here for 2 nights and were very impressed with the standard of everything, we made sure that we had a 1st floor room with a large full length opening window which enabled us to get plenty of ventilation as it was a sunny couple of days, the room and bathroom were spotless with a very good shower, you do get outside noise as it is outside the railway station, but the glazing was good and with the window shut it was minimal, they did warn us it was a noisy side of the hotel but it did not bother us in any way even with the window open. The food was good and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The position of the hotel is perfect for walking to any part of the city with an open top bus tour stop outside the hotel.   The hotel was an excellent choice for us

"Great Location”

We spent one night, the hotel was close to the attractions and the train station. The room was clean and comfortable, no air conditioning. Service at the reception was helpful and friendly. Breakfast included the buffet and anything on the menu so there was lots of taste food, service was quick and friendly.

 "I am very happy .....”

I chose The Royal Hotel. What more can you want than a clean and inviting hotel with very pleasant and professional staff, good food , a comfortable bed and close proximity to shops and places of interest.I especially like the special touch of a cafetiere in the room, a towel and slippers provided for the Thermae Bath Spa - I was on a spa break. A very happy guest.

"So pleased!”

I have recently stayed in this hotel with my friend for a weekend away. What a fantastic experience! The staff were lovely, especially Emilie on the front desk! The location on the hotel is fantastic, so near to all of the sights in bath and is so easy to get to. Our room was beautiful and big, with a lovely bathroom. Breakfast was lovely with a variety of choices, all cooked freshly. We asked for a quiet room but as were in the centre of bath, there was bound to be a little noise, but we had a great night’s sleep. We will definitely be going back as soon as we can!

"Perfect for a solo traveller”

Visiting the UK from NZ, I decided on a spontaneous trip to Bath and on arrival from the railway station spotted The Royal Hotel across the road. Not only did they offer me a great rate for a room, they accommodated my request for a noon check in. The room was elegant and spacious with a fabulous bath; perfect for unwinding in. However my foremost impression is the magnificent staff at the Royal-extremely helpful and friendly; nothing was a bother. The hotel has a cosy homely feel; it is beautifully furnished and the location is amazing. Everything you could possibly want to do is on your doorstep and for me, a woman travelling alone, it was particularly ideal because of being so central. I cannot recommend the hotel strongly enough; I hope I return soon.

July 2014 - TripAdvisor

"Very enjoyable break”

We stayed on the 2 night bed, breakfast and evening meal deal. The hotel is ideally situated near the city centre, we paid extra for the on-site parking, at £8.20 per night this eradicated any parking issues. The whole staff we met were a credit to the hotel, polite, smiling and attentive throughout our stay. Breakfast and evening meals were really tasty and well presented. The room on the 3rd floor was functional, although it was really hot at night but this is no real problem when you only stay 2 nights. I would not hesitate to stay at the Royal Hotel again.

"The Royal Hotel Bath”

Really lovely, clean friendly hotel right by Bath Spa Station and a short walk to the Spa. The staff are really welcoming, the food is excellent and the rooms are really clean and comfortable. This was our second visit and we will definitely stay there again next time we go to Bath.

"Pleasant station hotel experience”

Of course Bath is not an inexpensive site, but the hotel location and staff make it totally worth the expense. The room although small is excellently appointed including a French press and coffee. Wow. The bed was comfortable and there was just room to exercise on our yoga mats. Recommend any spa package they offer a fine value. The staff was very cheery and helpful. We had afternoon tea in the restaurant and it was lovely tea, scones and clotted cream. Jolly.

"Excellent hotel!”

The Royal hotel is well located, easy to find, just across the Bath Spa railway station. It is walking distance to the centre of the city (roman baths, cathedral, etc.) Very quiet hotel. Our room was large with a very nice bathroom. It was quiet, very clean. The hotel also has an elevator so you do not have to climb the stairs with your luggage. Parking is not far from the hotel, adjacent to the police station. The hotel personnel is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is excellent and is served in a nice dining room.

"Bank holiday break”

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Royal. You will be aware from other reviews that the Hotel enjoys a great location. I would also add that the Hotel was easy to find, just follow the directions to the Railway Station. All the staff were pleasant and helpful and very professional at all times. Our room was traditional and comfortable. Our room faced the back and we weren't bothered by any noise. The food at breakfast and evening was very good with a nice choice of dishes. We booked on a two night special break with was excellent value. Would definitely stay at the Royal in future.

"An excellent hotel in a beautiful city”

The Royal Hotel is conveniently located, close to the Cathedral, Baths, shops, restaurants and the stations. Outside the hotel there is real buzz, inside the hotel our room was quiet, clean and a perfect sanctuary after a busy day of sightseeing. The hotel colleagues were friendly and knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you.

"Perfect location in Bath”

The Royal Hotel is right across the street from Bath Spa station so makes it the easiest hotel to find in Bath. The room was spacious and the furnishings were cute, the extra touches like the slippers, robes and free DVDs made our stay very comfortable. We walked to the Roman Baths easily, the pick up point for our trip to Stonehenge was right around the corner and there were many restaurants nearby. The hotel itself has a nice bar and bar menu, the staff were very pleasant and the free wifi is reliable. We would stay again if we travel back to Bath.

"Great convenient hotel”

Stayed at this hotel with a friend for a couple of days away to visit Thermea Spa. We were both very impressed especially as we both worked in the travel industry for years and have been to hotels all over the world. Staff were friendly and professional. Was worried the twin rooms may be a bit small but it was fine and had everything we needed especially the bottle of wine that came with the special offer. The food in the restaurant was well presented and good quality as was the breakfast where they offer a selection to suit all tastes. I have already recommended this hotel to people. One thing I was impressed with was that they don't charge stupid money in the bar for the drinks or bar snacks which you often find with hotels that do special offers, they get you there cheap then charge the earth for extras so well done the Royal. Great hotel highly recommended.

"Great location and outstanding service”

The Royal Hotel is ideally located for bus/train travel, and also within easy walking distance of Bath City Centre. We stayed for three nights and took advantage of the special offer on bed, breakfast and evening meal for two of the three. Our room was spacious and fairly classic in design, with an excellent shower. The food choice for breakfast was outstanding; the quality of the cooked offerings was reasonably good and good value for money. It's the customer service that makes the hotel really special though; nothing was too much trouble and everyone made us feel really welcome. We'll definitely visit again.

"Convenient and quirky”

Had a lovely stay at the Royal Hotel in Bath. Right across the street from the train station and an easy walk to the Baths and Regency Bath, the Royal staff was wonderful from the point of first contact by email right through our departure. The hotel dates to the Victorian period and the lift is tiny and stairs are steep - I kept thinking about those Victorian ladies in the huge hoop skirts going up and down the narrow steep stairs and wondering how in the world they managed it - but the overall feel is charming. The breakfast is well done and tasty and we selected the dinner package for our first night, as we had been travelling for - literally - three days when we arrived and didn't want to be bothered with thinking about where to have dinner, and it was a very good decision and pleasant surprise. We had a nice upper floor room that was reasonably sized and surprisingly quiet and had everything we needed for our stay. All in all, a really pleasant stay in beautiful Bath. If we come back again, we would stay here.

"Lovely stay”

Hotel was very welcoming. Wonderful polite staff always had a smile and nothing was to much trouble. We had a double room which was a good size. Bathroom had walk in shower which was perfect. Great tea and coffee facilities- even had fresh coffee! Bar was cosy and bar staff friendly. Breakfast was spot on, lots of selection from toast, cereal and fruit to a full English. Myself and my husband had eggs Benedict which were superb. Thank you to everyone at the Royal for a wonderful stay. We will definitely be back.

"Lovely Bank Holiday Break in Bath”

My daughter and I had a wonderful stay in this hotel over the May Bank Holiday. The staff really couldn't do enough for us - the young ladies at the reception were particularly helpful and always cheerful and very pleasant. We booked a superior double and it was definitely worth the extra money as the room was extremely spacious with chairs and a settee comfortably placed in front of the very large flat screen TV. The food too was delicious and very good value for money as we had booked the dinner B&B deal ( I particularly recommend the desserts!).Everything was spotlessly clean and I can't recommend this hotel enough. If you are looking for a hotel only a short walk from all the attractions of Bath you really can't go wrong with this one - especially if you are going by train as the station is just opposite the hotel. Can I say thanks again to all the wonderful staff who made our stay such an enjoyable one.

"Absolutely first class!”

I would not hesitate to recommend this perfectly located hotel in the heart of the city centre, literally a stone's throw from Bath Spa station. Excellent, knowledgeable staff who knew who you were and your room number without being asked; All meals taken were faultless, and service extremely good; bedroom and bed was very comfortable, with lots of extras which we didn't expect for the price (trouser press, fan, real coffee granules and cafetiere and Twinings English Breakfast tea). Perfect hotel for a short break in Bath. Our package included 2 hours at the Spa, half board (excellent choice from menu) and a champagne cream tea which we were able to take after checking out and was a perfect end to our stay. 10/10 Royal Hotel - more upmarket hotels would have a hard job offering anything better or even as good - I will recommend to everyone I know who would enjoy this experience.

Stayed here for my husbands birthday at the end of March in a superior room. Lovely room with lots of extras like proper coffee with a cafetiere. Breakfast was just right nice change from self service. Ate in the restaurant both nights food excellent! "Wonderful staff”

Have just returned from a girlie break in The Royal Hotel and cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived the staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful, from the reception and restaurant/bar staff to the Housekeeper and the lovely lady who cleaned our room. The Hotel is in a fantastic position next to the train station and our bedroom, at the front of the hotel, was large, clean, bright and airy and had recently been decorated. It was well stocked with proper coffee, biscuits, various types of tea and bottled water. Lovely chocolates on our pillows were also a delicious treat. Our package of 2 nights with dinner, bed, breakfast, 2 hour Thermae Spa visit and a champagne cream tea cost £210 and was excellent value for money. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the bar in the hotel was so reasonably priced that we felt no need to go elsewhere in the evenings after dinner. We had also pre-booked a car parking space which made unloading our luggage very easy. One of the nicest, friendliest hotels we've ever stayed in and can't wait to return.

"Fantastic Food!”

Staying in Bath recently we had to walk past this hotel to get into the town centre. On our way back from an afternoon shopping we decided to call in for a well deserved drink. What a gorgeous place! The bar was comfy and the gentleman behind the bar was lovely. We ended up staying for 2 drinks and booked a table in the restaurant for that evening. We came back in the evening and were shown to a lovely table near the window, the restaurant was pretty quiet but it was about 9 pm and mid week, the staff were wonderful and the food absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend the restaurant here, I can't comment on the hotel to stay at, yet, but plan to rectify that on our next Bath visit! The whole place had a lovely feel about it and look forward to booking in !

This place is right opposite the train station and so is very easy to find. They have a great range of food on offer with a daily special too. The food is cooked and presented to perfection and is absolutely delicious. I have never had a bad meal here and there is nothing I would change which is rare these days. It is extremely good value for money and I have paid far more for a lot less. Their staff are all friendly and efficient and I only hope they never change their chefs. Congratulations on being my favourite place to eat in Bath.

"Could not have been better.”

My husband and I stayed here on one of their 2 night special deals and found it wonderful value. We were happy from the time we booked in at reception until the moment we left, spotlessly clean room, great staff and good food. The very smart housekeeper even discovered it was a special wedding anniversary for us and left a 30 made of chocolates on the bed - a very nice touch. The restaurant had a very nice atmosphere and good menu choices-remember to order vegetables, and we both enjoyed Eggs Benedict on the second morning-delicious! Would certainly recommend the Royal and intend to visit again

"Wonderful”

We stayed two nights in this hotel and I was extremely pleased. From the moment that we arrived I felt welcomed and at home. We arrived early however were allowed to check in. Put out bags into our room and headed straight out into the centre of Bath only a couple of minutes walk away. We had dinner in the evening and was very pleasantly surprised. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the bathroom clean with a decent shower. Plenty of choice at breakfast and wine left in our bedroom. Staff were always cheery and helpful. Would definitely stay again.

"Fabulous Honeymoon Hotel”

My husband and I stayed at The Royal Hotel for our honeymoon this weekend and it was a wonderful and welcoming experience - from the best wishes we received before we even arrived (via Twitter) to the greeting we got when we drove down from Brighton and were a little frazzled after the long trip! Also, when we found that the kettle in our room was not working early one morning we rang down to reception and got a replacement within 5 minutes, which was excellent! We had a superior bedroom which was decorated in a wonderful - and very blue - style. Very clean, great sized (very comfortable) bed with a canopy, good tea & coffee making facilities and a fantastic large en-suite bathroom complete with complementary toiletries and a decent sized bath. As we had a superior room we also got big, fluffy robes and slippers so that we could relax in comfort in the room. Our TV was new and had the usual freeview channels as well as a selection of new DVDs to borrow from reception if we so fancied. The room was great value and the price included breakfast, which was also a fantastic affair. Cooked, continental or a mix of both, the food was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly without being too in your face about things. Toast and tea and a wonderful cooked breakfast was a perfect start to married life for me, while my husband had porridge followed by eggs on toast, which he proclaimed delicious. There is also a well stocked bar (including local ales as well as the usual bar drinks) with friendly staff and a restaurant on site which is supposed to be very good (we didn't have time to try it unfortunately) The hotel is situated centrally, right by Bath Spa train station, and as such everything you could want to see or do is just a short walk away. There are some (limited) paid parking spaces in the hotel (which you need to reserve in advance) but the hotel is also a 2 minute walk away from the Southgate shopping centre where you can also park safely for a reasonable price (we were there from Thursday-Saturday and it cost us £16). I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone and anyone and would like to thank them again for making our first few nights as a married couple very enjoyable ones. We will definitely return when we come back to Bath!

"Wonderful - the staff, the food, the bed.....”

I'd read the reviews before I came and they all said the staff were wonderful...but THEY REALLY ARE !! All of them , from housekeeping and waiting staff through to the reception, all really lovely. If I could score them 20/10 I would !! Helpful way above and beyond what you'd hope for, really really accommodating and friendly. The breakfast was PERFECT ( I had the smoked haddock with poached eggs, fresh orange, toast, marmalade and loads of fresh coffee ) Pleasantly full and ready to start my day now :-) Ooooohh, and the bed was extra comfortable, better than mine at home.

"Perfect Stay”

We have just enjoyed two nights at this hotel. Everything was perfect. The room (standard double) was a decent size and the bed comfortable. Room was cleaned to a high standard each day. The breakfast was the best we have experienced in a hotel - wide choice and prompt service. Dinner was delicious with lots of choice and friendly service. Highly recommend.

"Beautiful hotel in perfect location”

Stayed here for a city break for my birthday. The hotel stay was a surprise and I was very impressed. The hotel is in the perfect location for a city break within walkable distance of all the sights. The rooms are warm, homely and comfortable, with the only criticism being how creaky the floors are when people walk past your room (at one point I thought someone was in our room). But you soon get used to this, and it soon becomes part of the charm of the old building. We visited the restaurant for dinner and breakfast, and was very very impressed with the food and attentive service! Would definitely return!

"What a find"

What an excellent hotel, really refreshing to stay in an independent Hotel, could not fault anything, we stayed in a superior room which had was large with a seating area. The bathrooms have recently been updated and had bath robes and slippers included. The food at breakfast was superb with the hot food being cooked to order which seems unique these days. The location is great for walking around Bath, well worth a visit

"One of the best hotel stays of all time”

I just want to thank the staff at this hotel for a lovely stay. We were late on out first day and would have missed out on dinner, but the lovely Izzy called us and arrange for a later sitting. She was helpful and professional from the first second that we entered the building to the very last.  The hotel is clean, professional and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel (really is) opposite the train station and really well placed. The breakfast and dinners were lovely and we were so impressed with the value for money.

"Excellent”
I stayed on business, and the hotel was surprisingly within budget; it was an extremely well located hotel. Staff were friendly, my room was clean and absolutely fine. Breakfast was good, albeit for business people it would have been better for me to eat at 7 am, rather than wait until 7.30 am, as was the case here. That is but a small gripe. All in all, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

"Could not fault it, so going back to have another go !!!!”
We go to Bath very often and usually stay at another Hotel, but there was such a great offer thought we would give it a go and we were not disappointed, Food and service were first class. The location is excellent next to the new shopping area, parking is limited so pre book.

"Excellent accommodation”

My husband and I recently stayed at the Royal. We booked a parking space with the hotel which was ideal. The hotel is in a great location and suited us perfectly as we were in Bath for the Christmas market so we were within a short walking distance from all the stalls. The room was a fair size, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the three course dinner we had was of a very high quality. Would not hesitate in staying here again.

"Christmas markets Bath”

Just got home from visiting the Bath Christmas markets. Bath is well worth a visit in December. We stayed at The Royal Hotel which is first rate.  They offer bed breakfast and evening meal at a very reasonable rate. Rooms are nice and comfortable with good facilities, the restaurant serves excellent food and staff are friendly and helpful.  The Hotel is in the middle of town and can offer pre-booked parking at the back of the hotel. We had a lovely time and next time we visit Bath this is where we will stay.
