Once to home of William Herschel, his sister Caroline and brother Alexander no. 19 New King Street, Bath was the location where William first discovered the planet Uranus in 1781 using a home-made telescope.

The beautifully restored house is Grade II listed and has many Georgian features and items that belonged to the Herschel family on display. The Herschel family came to Bath to pursue careers in music, but fell in love with Astronomy. You can see some of their astronomy instruments in the house still today, plus explore the gardens, house and learn more about the Herschel family their lives and achievements.

Regular events and exhibitions are to be seen at the Herschel Museum of Astronomy, each with their own theme and well produced. A visit to the museum is great for families and can be enjoyed even if the weather outside is not great.
