Close to the beautiful spa city of Bath you can find Stanton Drew Stone Circle, a little known but stunning monument to ancient times. Why not bring along a picnic and enjoy a full day out exploring the surrounding countryside and the stone circle with family or friends? There are 3 stone circles and a stone cove to explore at Stanton Drew, plus wonderful views and wildlife to be seen.
There is an air of mystery about Stanton Drew, the placement of the stones themselves and what they were used for as far back as 3000 – 2000 BC, although it is believed that they were aligned with the lunar and solar calendar and could mark special events during those times. During a geographical survey in 1997 it was realised that Stanton Drew Stone Circle is just a small section of a much larger site which has elaborate and complex pits, circles and enclosures.
