Bath on a Budget: Affordable Things to Do in Bath

A visit to the beautiful and historic city of Bath will leave even the most seasoned traveller with memories to last a lifetime. But if they are not careful that visit might also take a considerable bite out of their bank account. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are a variety of steps you can take to reduce the cost of your visit to Bath without compromising the quality of the experience. In this post, we’ll look at some of our favourite affordable things to do in Bath.

Ways to Experience Bath on a Budget

Stay off the tour bus: There are a lot of tour buses operating in Bath and they are quite popular. Unfortunately, tour buses can also be a significant expense, especially if you are visiting Bath with the whole family. A better idea is to ditch the tour bus, get a map of the city and experience it on foot. You’ll wonder why you ever considered taking the bus.

Take a free walking tour: If you don’t want to pay for a tour bus but still would like some type of guided tour you’re in luck. Free walking tours are available, led by volunteers chosen by the city. They take small groups around pointing out and giving background on all the noteworthy attractions. Guided tours leave from outside the Pump Room restaurant every day (except Saturday) at 10:30 am.

Embrace the picnic: Weather permitting of course a picnic is a great and affordable alternative to dining in some of Bath’s better restaurants, which can get a little pricey. There are a lot of great picnic spots in Bath, including our favourite, the lawn in front of the Royal Crescent. Take in some free attractions: There are a load of high-quality free attractions in Bath such as the Victoria Art Gallery, which is located next to Pulteney Bridge, and the Holburne Museum. Bath Abbey is another historic site that is well worth a visit. While the Abbey does not demand an entry fee they do ask that you consider making a voluntary contribution. It’s up to you.
