For those of you who love amazing architecture and a good bit of culture, you’ll find Bath Abbey a wonderful place to visit. With its honey like gold stone and amazing stained windows the Abbey is a must-visit place for just about anyone.
Interestingly there have been three churches on the site of the Abbey but in 1499 the current Abbey was founded and it still stands proud today. With its host of angels that are said to be ascending and descending, the West front is magnificent and is a great welcome to all who visit the Abbey.
1864 to 1874
In 1864 to 1874 Sir George Gilbert Scott transformed the interior of the abbey so it was more to his taste. Visitors to the Abbey can wonder at the Victorian Gothic architecture in all its glory and learn how different the interior looks compared to when the Abbey was first built. Fans of architecture will come across many different styles through-out the Abbey and it’s perhaps something which makes this wonderful building as unique and special as it is.
But, you don’t have to just take a stroll around the Abbey and grounds hoping to learn about its history, you can in fact take part in a tour.
