It’s been a tough few years, hasn’t it? Thankfully, we can always retire to a local bar for some well-earned downtime. Luckily for anyone who lives, works, or visits Bath, the internationally recognised city is packed to the brim with cocktail bars offering a wide range of drinks, all at great prices, and all with unique and quirky atmospheres.
There’s so much to choose from in terms of cocktail bars that we’ve struggled to boil it down to just a few. But we’ve given it a go. Here are our top picks for the city’s best cocktail spots…
The 1846 Bar
Serving real ales, spirits and wines – as well as a cracking range of cocktails – is our very own cocktail bar here at The Royal Hotel, Bath. A lovely spot for couples and families alike to relax and unwind, we offer a wide range of drinks to cater for all needs.
If sophistication and Victorian-era glamour is what you’re looking for, then look no further. Tucked within the iconic Royal Hotel, The 1846 Bar (named after the year the hotel was founded) enhances the classic historic charm of the city and isn’t to be missed.
Browse our cocktail menu and sip elegantly on our 1846 Old Fashioned, crafted with a premium whisky blend, or our Lavender Collins, bringing a fresh floral twist to familiar flavours. Indulge in laughs with close friends while perched on plush seating, and take in our timeless polished wood interior. It’s just the location for an intimate evening celebration.
Our bartenders are well-versed in adding contemporary twists to classic cocktails, using high quality spirits and refined techniques. It’s the ideal place to soak up Bath’s deep and rich heritage.
Dos Dedos
We’re possibly a bit biased here. We love nachos! However, Dos Dedos is an absolute must for anyone visiting Bath. Our Mexican friends are experts when it comes to making top-quality cocktails and this is an ideal spot for anyone into a drop of tequila!
If you’re partial to a margarita (or two), you’ll love their selection of signature drinks including the classic Margarita with a twist and the Smoky Mezcal Paloma. Bold, earthy flavours and well balanced by bursts of tangy citrus are how the bartenders at Dos Dedos keep you interested.
In terms of ambience, the cocktail bar exudes a relaxed, yet vibrant Mexican cantina vibe. Neon lights lend a pop of colour and modernism to a rustic interior. If you’re looking for a mid-week tipple, visit during happy hour for some great discounts. Alternatively, get a hold of everything Dos Dedos has to offer with Latin beats and tequila-fuelled vibrancy on the weekends.
Comptoir Libanais
From Mexico City to the Mediterranean, we love something a little different. And we think you will too. These guys serve a range of classic cocktails (all with a Medi twist of course) and their décor is amazingly characteristic of the Middle Eastern culture it celebrates. You’ll be sure to enjoy- especially if you like a bit of mosaic detail or hanging foliage!
Signature cocktails borrow generously from Middle Eastern flavours, and include the Pomegranate & Mint Martini and the Lebanese 75, a twist on the French 75 using arak, a traditional Lebanese spirit.
As a restaurant bar, Comptoir Libanais prides themselves on their fresh, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. With a quick glance at their mezze menu you can discover a range of delicious light bites to pair with your expertly crafted cocktails.
The Botanist
The name alone sells it, right? Set in an old church and full of plants, this is one of the gems in Bath’s crown. Offering stunning views, a range of cocktails and a cracking bottomless brunch, it’s definitely one for the hit list during your visit.
Unsurprisingly, the cocktail menu at The Botanist offers drinks influenced by vibrant botanicals and fresh herbs. Take your pick from signatures such as the refreshing Botanist Garden made with gin, elderflower and mint or the romantic Rose & Lychee Martini.
No matter if it’s too chilly to sit outside, The Botanist’s interior is a garden in and of itself. A combination of greenery, rustic wooden accents and dangling vines gives the bar area an almost fantastical feel, perfect for those dull winter afternoons.
As one might expect, The Botanist’s commitment to sustainability is paramount. Eco-conscious customer’s won’t feel a shred of worry when every cocktail uses locally sourced herbs and botanicals.
If you found the cocktails too good to let go, The Botanist offers frequent cocktail masterclasses where you can learn from expert mixologists and master the art yourself. These interactive sessions are great for couples, larger groups and celebrations.
Tapas Revolution
Now we’re off to Spain! Sangria, cocktails and just generally an incredible atmosphere – Tapas Revolution has an authentic Spanish feel and is ideal for date nights and smaller group meet-ups.
Expect a fiesta inside your mouth when you try their signature cocktails the Revolución Sangria, a refreshing blend of red wine, brandy, and fresh fruit, and the Hibiscus Margarita, which adds a refreshing floral twist to the classic Margarita.
Tapas Revolution injects a slice of modernity into our historic city with a chic, lively interior. A variety of small plates such as patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo (garlic prawns), and jamón ibérico are available to accompany a selection of fruity beverages.
Tapas Revolution are generous with their happy hours and exclusive deals on cocktails. Whether you’re after some pre-dinner drinks, or simply want to soak up the vibrant atmosphere, it’s certainly worth a go.
