Family Attractions in Bath

The largest city in Somerset, Bath is absolutely bursting with fun activities for all the family and is brimming with history – making it a lovely spot for a holiday or weekend away with your loved ones.

From escape rooms to theatres, museums to parks, and even a skyline walk thrown in for good measure, you can pretty much guarantee you won’t be short of things to do on your trip.

And, to give you a helping hand, we’ve picked out some of our favourite attractions.

The Roman Baths

Bath by name, bath by nature. The Roman Baths is one of the most popular heritage attractions in the country, featuring the remains of an ancient spa and temple. This is ideal for a day out with the kids – with family trails, costume characters, regular events and a child-friendly audio guide to keep both children and grown-ups entertained.

Royal Victoria Park

Looking for somewhere to walk, relax and take in some wonderful surroundings? Look no further than Royal Victoria Park. Opened in 1830 by Princess Victoria, the future queen, this is a vast expanse of green space spanning 57 acres. It is home to mini golf, an adventure playground, tennis courts and some beautiful botanic gardens.

Bath Escape Rooms

Don’t let rain stop play. The Escape4Fun escape rooms are set close to the city centre, offering visitors a customisable escape room experience. You can add props, select from different game levels and take on specially-designed puzzles to escape your fate.

Longleat Safari

Ok, ok. So this isn’t technically in Bath, but it’s only a short drive to the nearby Warminster and is well worth a visit. Longleat is a drive-through safari and adventure park that has been described as unforgettable, and for very good reason. You’ll be able to get up close and personal with giraffes, zebras and monkeys to name a few. You’ll also be able to observe a cheetah, tigers and two prides of lions. That’s not all, either. Longleat features a stately home and adventure park which promise to add further joy and history to an incredible safari experience.

Victoria Art Gallery

If you’re looking to add a little creativity to your itinerary, the Victoria Art Gallery is a must. Entry is free, and the gallery is home to hundreds of paintings, sculptures and decorative art pieces. What makes it ideal for families is the regular programme of children’s activities, including craft sessions and family trails that make art accessible, engaging and fun for younger visitors.
You’ll also find interactive exhibits dotted throughout the space, and it’s just a short walk from Pulteney Bridge, making it a perfect stop during a day of exploring.

Bath City Farm

For a slower-paced afternoon and a breath of fresh air, Bath City Farm is a brilliant choice. It’s a working community farm set across 37 acres of countryside with stunning views over the city. Kids can meet goats, pigs, chickens and ponies, while also learning about nature, food growing and animal care.
There’s a play area, woodland trails and even a cosy café to grab a bite. Entry is free, though donations are welcome to support the charity-run site.

The Egg Theatre

For something a little different, head to The Egg Theatre. Built with young audiences in mind, this small but lively theatre offers family-friendly performances all year round. Whether it’s a classic fairy tale or a quirky modern story, shows are designed to keep both children and parents engaged.
Workshops and creative sessions are often on the calendar too, so it’s worth checking what’s on before your visit.

Herschel Museum of Astronomy

If your little ones love all things space and science, don’t miss the Herschel Museum of Astronomy. It’s set in the house where William Herschel discovered the planet Uranus, and the museum offers a fascinating look into the world of astronomy, music and Georgian Bath.
There are hands-on activities and family-friendly exhibits, making it a fun and educational stop during your trip.

Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park

A short drive from Bath will take you to Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park, where little explorers can meet animals, run wild in the indoor and outdoor play zones, and even hop on a miniature train. There are regular events and seasonal attractions too, from lamb feeding in spring to spooky trails in autumn.
It’s the kind of place that keeps children entertained for hours, while adults can enjoy the peaceful riverside setting.
