There is an air of mystery about Stanton Drew, the placement of the stones themselves and what they were used for as far back as 3000 – 2000 BC, although it is believed that they were aligned with the lunar and solar calendar and could mark special events during those times. During a geographical survey in 1997 it was realised that Stanton Drew Stone Circle is just a small section of a much larger site which has elaborate and complex pits, circles and enclosures.
